2016 Volkswagen Golf R Specs and Review
The German automaker has made a great breakthrough in one of its most popular cars of all time with the production of the first Golf vehicle. But with the development of the vehicle and the rise of the buyer’s appetite, people from Volkswagen had to do something in terms of power of the vehicle. In 2003 came the first Golf R vehicle, which possessed a dual clutch system and it was the first of its kind then.
But today it is time to represent a new Golf vehicle, dubbed the 2016 Volkswagen Golf R. this model was actually presented for the first time in 2013 on the Frankfurt motor show, and made its US debut the following year at the Detroit show, but it has taken it until now for the car to arrive in the US showrooms and become available for the general public.

2016 Volkswagen Golf R Exterior
The new 2016 Volkswagen Golf R features the same traditional shape as any Golf has, but with few minor alterations which give the car its new and revised appearance. Although being similar to the seventh generation Golf vehicles and having almost all of the characteristics which these cars possess, the 2016 Golf R has gained a few add-ons which revise its look and make it seem much aggressive, which actually goes in accordance with the power of the vehicle.
The first noticeable thing is the refined bumper which has additional air inlets at its side which do not give an interesting new look to the car, but provide enhanced cooling to the engine. At front, a new sportier grille is added with the newly updated bi-xenon headlight housings, which houses the new LED technology daytime running lights.
At the side of the vehicle, the Golf R features new R body side skirts and calipers with R logos. At the back you will find a R designed diffuser with an updated exhaust system which includes four impressive chrome tailpipes. This time the car runs on 18-inch aluminum wheels.
Volkswagen Golf R Interior
According to some other reviews the interior of the new 2016 Volkswagen Golf R is mainly characterized by being roomier and sportier. The immediate response about the inside is that the car has a lot more room inside of it due to the increased measures of the car. Additionally the car has undergone some revision in terms of style and now has a more sports like interior than before. The highlights of the car are certainly the new sports seats which are upholstered in Nappa leather, providing additional comfort to the driver.
The inside upgrades include some familiar stuff from the Golf line as well as some additional upgrades which enhance the vehicle’s sportier look. We have the standard three-spoke steering wheel which has a chrome “R” logo placed on it. Added are the speedometer and tachometer available in a pleasant light-blue color. At the sides you will notice the “Carbon Touch” design which is seen on the door panels while the navigation touchscreen system has also been customized to include an R on its front.
As you can see from the photos the whole dashboard has be modernly designed. It has gone through a thorough customization and looks pretty fabulous. When you open the car the inside lights up immediately, while the center matted 5.8-inch touch screen automatically switching from display mode to input mode in accordance with the passenger swiping the display of it. The blue light gives you a great mood theme and provide the passengers with a pleasant atmosphere to drive in.
Volkswagen Golf R Engine
The 2016 Golf R gets an updated engine under its hood. You will find the new 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine which has fits this car perfectly. It has the capacity of reaching 292 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and 280 pound-feet of torque between 1,800 to 5,500 rpm. Included in the drivetrain is a six-speed manual transmission system to combine with the aforementioned engine. This combination enables the Golf R vehicle to sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds.
Optionally available is a trim which includes a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission system. This will enhance the vehicle’s startup capabilities and reduce its starting time from 0 to 60 mph to just 4.9 seconds.
Price of Volkswagen Golf R for 2016
The new 2016 Volkswagen Golf R comes a bit more expensive than you remember it being. And how would it not be with all of these additional upgrades which grace this vehicle. The base model costs exactly$36,595, but if we count in the optional additions such as Navigation and DCC, the numbers will rise to $39,090.
