2017 Lexus GX Redesign
The newly offered redesign of the 2017 Lexus GX is not here. But the car does not come as ostentatious as we expect it to be. The model in fact does not rank as high in the segment as one would think it does. The luxury midsize SUV class is a competitive one and the GX has not been praised so well. If you are looking for a model which provides off-road capabilities for a luxury line, then this is the midsizer for you. But the question is how good are those capabilities in fact.
The car comes overweight and its V-8 engine, although a good choice, is not powerful enough to carry all that weight. It hampers the acceleration and also the performance of the car. The performance rankings are also dropped down based on the ride quality and handling which is also not top notch as well. Even the fuel economy rankings are below average because of this.
The inside is the same story as the materials that are incorporated barely make the grade for a Lexus model. The passengers up front are not going to mind it but the people in the second row seats are not going to have a good time at all. The car does score an average price for the class but there is still a question is it worth all the money that you can pay for it. Here is our review and what we have thought of the latest 2017 Lexus GX release.
2017 Lexus GX Exterior
The exterior design for the 2017 Lexus GX does not promises us anteing spectacular. The outside design has not been upgraded in any significant way and we are witnessing the same kind of a car which we had before. The car does not do anything special aesthetically and does not oppose the competition in the looks department. With the standard but dated look the Lexus brand needs to come up with something new.
Perhaps the only good thing are the underpinnings which the car is using. They are borrowed from the Land Cruiser model and actually invoke toughness. The mode will be able to tackle different terrains and even go off-road as it said it was capable to do. This may be a bit too much as some would say but the car promises to bring in the best sort of potential that it has. Perhaps the designers are hoping that the toughness of the car is going to enable more popularity of it but we are not certain if that is enough.
Although the interior of the 2017 Lexus GX looks decent, it cannot compete against the larges and front runners in the segment. The car does come with leather seating and wood trims, but it is a pale picture compared to the top cars in the segment now.
Unfortunately, the lacklastured design is carried over to the seating. The second row is, although spacious enough, very uncomfortable in design. The front seats on the other hand are quite comfy and are a big departure from the rear end. The third row is very small and does not provide enough spacing, but that is a problem for most of the three-row SUV cars.
With the third row seats folded down the car provides 64.7 cubic feet of cargo space. This is still below the class average it does not offer the necessary conveniences that other SUVs do. A good part is that the rear window can be open independently which allows you to pack in and transport longer items.
The 2017 Lexus GX exterior is going to come with a standard infotainment system which was used before. It is pretty easy to use and get accustomed too. But it is also a bit dated compared to what you will see in the other models in the market.
Under the hood of the 2017 Lexus GX is going to be a 4.6-liter V8 engine. This model is going to be able to produce 301 horsepower with the given powertrain and is actually not that a lot when you consider the competition. The car does has an average output and is another part that does not give it too much advantage compared to the competition. But what we are mostly concerned about is the fuel economy rating as this model is going to suck out a lot of fuel with an EPA estimation of 15 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.
Release Date and Price
We will be able to see the newest 2017 Lexus GX offered by next year. The car does not come in the start of the year as it was previously predicted but will appear a little bit later. For now we are sure that April is the designated release date for the car.
The starting price is going to be around $51,280 given as a base MSRP rate. But if you get the Premium trim the price will rise to $55,225 or even more to $62,155 with the top of the line Luxury model. The higher models are a lot better than the base version as they do manage to compensate for the lack of some parts which are not offered in the base version but one still needs to ask oneself if it is worth all the money invested.
