2016 Audi S4 is a top performance sport version of Audi’s executive sedan Audi A4. First version of this car has been in development from 1991 until 1994, and it was a sport version of Audi’s 100 sedan. Every next Audi S4 since 1997 has been based on the Audi A4. So every version of Audi A4 has its brother in Audi S4.
Audi S4 has more powerful engine, better brakes, firmer suspension, bigger wheels, better tires and many other performance and styling upgrades over the mainstream 100 and A4 siblings. There is an even more powerful version of Audi in that class, called Audi RS4, but there are many markets where Audi S4 stands as a top of the line trim of the A4 family.
All variants of the S4 have been made at Audi’s plant in Ingolstadt, in Germany. Every version is available (or have been available) as a four door sedan and five door, five seat Audi S4 Avant (that is a name used by Audi for station wagon). Convertible version have also been available in the past as a variant for B6 and B7 generations of A4.
