With a history spanning almost a century, and having earlier models nicknamed by Ettore Bugatti as among the ‘world’s fastest lorries’, Bentley will be writing a new history book as it prepares the launch of the new SUV with a Bentayga nameplate on it. For starters, the Continental GT line-up is almost exclusive for AWD drive mode only and far from being called a Sports Utility Vehicle. The thought of the coming SUV has given nightmares to classic users of the Bentley ever since the automaker announced plans of the launch of the new SUV by the fall of this year.
The present luxury market segment nowadays is all about sales, and with the 2016 Bentley Bentayga SUV already amassed 4,000 orders, the full size crossover is already on a sales success spree. The new vehicle will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform which is currently shared by Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7, and is rumoured the vehicle might become the only diesel powered engine. More on that will follow in the following review.
Exterior – 2016 Bentley Bentayga
The new vehicle will come with a redesigned exterior design different from the one previewed during the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The production Bentayga front end will be universally panned. There are some pointers that suggests that Bentley might try to play it safe, this will be done through a well-orchestrated plan of transplanting the same design language used in the top selling Continental GT, with only minor modifications done to make it fit in an SUV body. With that said, the front fascia is expected to feature a classic matrix engine grille together with 4 round headlights. The only differences over the Continental GT will be found on the details alone.
Sideways, the design language should be simultaneous to that of the EXP 9 F concept which imitates the Range Rover vibe to some extent. The new SUV will also debut with 22” wheels, iconic rear haunches and B-shaped side gills. Looking from the side, you will notice the Bentayga is rather imposing especially considering its dimensions are likely to be bigger than those of the Audi Q7.
2016 Bentley Bentayga Interior Pics
Going by recent teaser photos and industry hearsay, the new Bentayga will probably come with one of the most coveted and sumptuous cabins in the entire SUV world. It will blend well-known and extensively used Bentley materials that have modern features found on cars like the Audi Q7.
Neither confirmed or hinted, the instrument cluster is rumoured to come with an instrument cluster that will consists of an LED screen similar to the Audi TT, Q7 and the new Volkswagen Passat. The hyped instrument cluster will be responsible for displaying various types of data and control features. Adorning the centre console will be a variety of features which will include leather, steel/aluminium and wood, with each buyer specifying their preferences for consideration. Door panels and quilted seats will be a must in the new 2016 Bentley Bentayga, while the cargo volume should just be big enough to accommodate a pair of hunting dogs.
2016 Bentley Bentayga Price and Release Date
The vehicle is expected to land somewhere in the middle of next year with a price tag that will sure set you back by a whopping 300,000 USD, cementing Bentley as one of the most upmarket and profligate automobile company.
Engine Specs of the New Bentley Bentayga 2016
Under the hood of the new 2016 Bentley Bentayga will pack several engines since the all eyes will be set on it. The big news will however be the diesel engine which will be a first for Bentley.
Nothing yet can be confirmed as yet, but we expect top of the range engines that will include a twin turbocharged W-12 and TFSI engines. Borrowed from Audi, the 4L V8 engine will be able to yield up to 420 hp and up to 573 hp in the present Audi and limited edition Continental GT3-R vehicles respectively.
As for the diesel variant, the Bentayga could come equipped with a twin turbocharged 4.1L V8 from the Cayenne S Diesel model as opposed to lowering its prestige to V6 level. No exact details have been provided as regards the engine but our exclusive mule is digging deep to unravel them, and we will be updating the post as soon as we get the new info, so keep checking ‘All About Cars’ for updated news.
