2016 Ford Ranger is a compact midsize pickup truck produced by Ford Company. That is actually Ford’s version of Mazda BT-50. First generation of this vehicle has been in production from 2006 to 2011. The first true Second generation, Ford Ranger, came to the light of day in October of 2010 at the Australian International Motor Show in Sidney. Although it’s being sold in 180 countries, it is not currently planned to be sold in Canada and the U.S, because of the new platform being too close in size and cost to the F-150.
2016 Ford Ranger was always a car with serious reputation, and somehow missing from North American markets since 2011. Ford is convinced that buyers in USA are not interested anymore for smaller midsize trucks with better maneuverability. That practically became Ford’s main strategy and they are not backing up.
In this review, we are going to cover some technical information about the announced engine specs, interior and exterior, release date and possible prices.
2016 Ford Ranger Engine Specs
Engine options are basically updated versions we could see in the last couple of years. Those updates include some tunings aimed at improving general performance, fuel efficiency, implementation of EPAS (electric power assisted steering), taller final drive ratio, etc.
There are three engine options in total:
- First one is 2.2 liter L4 (four cylinder Duratorq) turbo diesel with 129-150 horsepower, with 284 lb-ft of torque.
- Second one is a 3.2 liter L5 (five cylinder Duratorq) turbo diesel with 197 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque.
- Third option is 2.5 liter L4 with 163 horsepower and 166 lb-ft or torque.
All engines are going to come with either a six speed manual or six speed automatic transmission.
Fuel consumption is going to be lowered considering all the updates installed on this 2016 Ford Ranger engine. Additionally, nowadays, all car manufacturers have that tendency to lower the overall weight of their vehicles by using ultra durable light weight materials, and thus achieving more efficient cars. The current Ford Ranger models in the United Kingdom, consume 38 mpg with two wheel drive and 2.2 liter four cylinder engine, while the 3.2 liter tops out at 28 mpg combined and 33 mph U.K. on a highway.
2016 Ford Ranger Exterior
The entire 2016 Ford Ranger exterior got updated in one way or another. The main change is the extensive use of aluminum and steel, for better performance. Grille got heavily redesigned while Taillights and headlights remained LED, but got a slighter sharper look. The entire body got more elegant design which lack on many modern models.
2016 Ford Ranger Interior
Like many other Ford’s modern vehicles the 2016 Ford Ranger interior features the sound-deadening materials and improved insulation to create a completely silent environment of driver and passengers. Depending on trim levels, 2016 Ford Ranger interior is going to arrive with heated and ventilated leather seats, SYNC 2 – the latest technological advancement of Ford’s in-car connectivity system that gives the driver a full control over car’s climate controls, entertainment and navigation system – and all that by voice commands. For extra commodity they installed the 240 volts power socket that can be used to power a laptop or any other device.
Secondly, Ford though through the safety measures too, so they implemented the array of different gadgets and devices that will ensure your safety on the road.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Lane Keeping Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Alert System, Electronic Stability System, Driver Impairment Monitor (that recognize whether or not driver is capable of driving), Hill Descent Control, Adaptive Load Control (it adjusts the stability of vehicle by measuring the load), etc.
So this car is pretty much perfect for Off-road, but question is, how much time it is really going to spend in the off road environments? More info on Topspeed.
