The Civic is Honda’s go to brand and it is perhaps the reason why the 2016 Honda Civic SI is coming back. The Honda Civic is the go to vehicle when it comes to standard compact commuter cars and has been selling like hot cakes ever since it was released. But they are making a comeback with the Sporty Si trim which is going to return this year and make another appearance.
The Honda Civic has been around since the 90s and has produced till this day nine generations of vehicles. The 9th generation model was released 2011 but was the model which has perhaps received the most amount of criticism to it. The lackluster interior and very poor ride quality were the things that most people were concerned about. But with the 10th generation which is scheduled to make an appearance this year, the model promises to address those issues and brings us the most comprehensive and most ambitious model that the Civic has provided.
The model was first seen as a concept version in 2015 at the New York Auto Show and officially announced for release in September this year. The announcement that came then said that the car is going to feature a new body style, better fuel efficiency, enhanced safety and improved refinement. The lineup is going to include the sedan, coupe and a five door hatchback option, but it will also mark the comeback of the sport Si trim. Even with the 9th generation losing some credibility for the Civic brand, we see that the 10th incarnation is going to make everything better. The 2016 Honda Civic Si model is going to be a standout when it comes to its exterior design. The base model is going to be updated compared to the previous generation model and is going to bridge some gaps that they had before. The car is sharp looking front to back as the headlights have been redesigned and the central grille blade pushes into the front fenders. The B-pillars have a black finish and the side windows have a stainless trim around them. The side-view mirrors are body color and the top trims have chrome door handles. The side profile is also revised as it gets new side skirts, that has an angle which manages to emphasize the sportback roofline. The rear end of the car is also large and chunky and also receive dual exhaust tips.
The car also manages to get a 12-percent improvement in aero efficiency, which makes it the most aerodynamic Civic ever produced. It makes for a quieter cabin and also manages to fix the fuel economy a little bit. The exterior dimensions have been enhanced, as the wheelbase is 1.2 inches longer, with the overall length going up 2.9 inches more. The front overhang is actually shorter, which benefits the aero of the car, while the overhang is longer which accounts for more storage. The car is also 2 inches wider, gaining 1.9 inches in the front track and 1.6 inches in the rear track, but also loses 0.8 inch in height.
There are also nine exterior colors also available for the car as well so you get to chose between Aegean Burgundy Night Pearl. Blue Metallic. Rallye, Red Silver Metallic , Cosmic Blue Metallic, which are all new and , Crystal Black Pearl, Taffeta White, Luna Modern Steel Metallic and White Orchid Pearl that are making a comeback.
With the flaws of the last model, the 2016 Honda Civic Si inferior had to be updated in a large way. The cabin has been reworked and now brings us a better setting for the Civic than it had before. First of all, the interior is much more open and roomy as it offers a much more spacious cabin for a compact class. It still manages to seat 5 people and has a maximum 97.8 cubic feet of passenger volume offered.
Thanks to a lower floor and the hip point there is a new driving position added and also combining it with the thinner pillars the visibility for the car has been improved as well. The ear of the car adds 15.1 cubic feet of cargo space, which is a 2.6 cubic feet expansion from the last model. The trunk is thus wider, deeper and taller.
The dash now has a whole different arrangement compared to before. It has been decluttered and it is much more simpler and cleaner to use. The materials are very much improved and there is more plastic and soft touch materials through the cabin, not just on the dash. The dash combines with soft-touch surfaces with molded stitching and piano-black finish and high-contrast silver bezel and makes a much more premium appearance. The equipment has also been expanded and features a completely contemporary and technologically advanced offer.
There is a very good looking lineup of engines offered for the 2016 Honda Civic model, with the Si having the latest output. The LX and EX are going to come with a naturally aspired engine offer with the DOHC, 16-valve, i-VTEC 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The output is higher than before and brings 148 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 138 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 rpm. It makes it the most powerful base model Civic car.
The EX-T, EX-L, or Touring models use a DOHC, 16-valve, VTC 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. This gives it a performance of 174 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 162 pound-feet of torque at 5,500 rpm. Both of these engines come with aluminum alloy for the block and head, and run on regular unleaded 87-octane gasoline.
The transmission systems are the 2.0-liter with a six-speed manual, the 2.0-liter with a CVT and the 1.5-liter with a CVT.
