I remember the time when I used to play video games all the time. That was a time when racing games were everything we played, and everything we loved. As a kid, I played Need For Speed every day.

And my vehicle of choice was always Mazda MX-5 or Mazda Miata. You can imagine the feeling I had when I actually entered the real deal. In this review I am going to try and summarize my opinions and predictions for this vehicle. We haven’t been able to drive it, yet. But as soon as it comes out, we are going to share that one with you too.

2016 Mazda MX-5 Interior

I want to start with 2016 Mazda MX-5 interior just because it was the first thing I wanted to tryout. This is actually the fourth generation of this vehicle, and it haven’t really changed a lot since the first one came out. I mean, it is more modern and has all the gadgets you would like, but you cannot do anything special with the interior of that size.

It is small, two seats vehicle with very little space for driver and a passenger. The materials used for dashboard and the inner part of doors are exquisite, like Mazda said, they wanted the interior to have more aspirational look and feel. They moved cup holders a little bit to the back, so now you can freely change gears without a fear from spilling whatever you have in a cup. There is small compartment between the two seats, for anything you need to store, and don’t expect any glove box.

In this era of big SUVs and luxury cars, we were really worried that Mazda will do something foolish with 2016 Mazda MX-5 exterior. But they didn’t. Miata actually got more aggressive look. It is wider and lower. Wheel base is relatively unchanged but overall length is down by 3 inches. It has new more sinister look in headlights and the taillight that actually look like something came from Jaguar. Front and rear bumpers, hood and trunk are made of aluminum which could increase a final price of this vehicle.

2016 Mazda MX-5 front side

2016 Mazda MX-5 engine got to be a host for the new Mazda Sky active drive train technology, which is actually headed towards better fuel consumption. There will be two versions of this engine. One for USA and other for the rest of the world. The one that is going to be driven in the rest of the world will be a 1.5 liter four cylinder direct injection gasoline engine, with 129 HP and it goes from 0-60 in just over 7 seconds with the top speed of 115 mph.

We couldn’t find anything bad with that 6 speed gearbox with very short cog which looks like a perfect solution for this kind of engine.

The USA version is going to be a little bit quicker. It looks like they are going to install the 2.0 liter engine with a different intake manifold, cylinder head and exhaust system. There isn’t much information concerning the 2.0 version yet, but what we could pull out from Mazda staff is that it is going to have 155 HP and 148 lb-ft of torque.

Fuel economy for 1.5 version is 24 mpg for city drive and 32 mpg for open road (highway).

2016 Mazda MX-5 Release Date and Price
