With the announcement of the 2017 BMW 6 Series model there are many interesting changes made for the car. This actually marks the end of the third-generation of vehicle and the end for the use of F12, F13, and F06 chassis, but at the same time marks a fresh new start with the fourth-generation one which comes with G14, G15, and G16 ones. The used chassis are going to be divided into three different new body styles that the 6 Series is going to give us with the new model, namely the convertible, four-door Gran Coupe and a two-door coupe.
In the past, these models that came from BMW were known as luxury touring vehicles, but it appears that all of that is going to change with the introduction of this model. The newest one is going to be much more closer to the Porsche vehicles of late, which are also considered its main rivals. The German automaker has started making the changes for the newest 2017 BMW 6 Series with the already introduction of a much more lighter frame which promise to provide more speed and better performance.
What they are bringing in for the 2017 is modular architecture which also means fewer models in production but more versatile submodels. This means that there is going to be a combination of some exotic new materials added with additional high-strength steel sections and aluminum alloys, magnesium and titanium accents as well as carbon fiber. The resulting changes are supposed to make a weight reduction of almost half a ton and a total weight of 3,439 pounds for the base and 3,748 pounds for the convertible.
But merely reducing the weight is not enough for any vehicle to challenge the great Porsche, so they also plan to lower the curb weight and also reduce the total overhang lowering the center of gravity, building a wider track and adding a active-aero setup. This is certainly going to make the cornering ability of this one much higher than the previous generation one but will it be enough to actually pose a threat for a model like the Porsche is. Here is what we think in our review about it.
The 2017 BMW 6 Series is going to have a pretty good looking exterior. Some things are always adamant and one of them is certainly the design of BMW 6 Series cars. The very solid German engineering has produced a thick slabbed grand tourer with a wide and low stance. This may pose a problem in achieving the rates of a Porsche model because width also means size and size means weight which can detain the BMW from reaching the desired effect and performance rate with this model. Nevertheless, the car looks like your regular sports car and has all the traits of one.
What we are almost certain is that they are going to keep the dimensions of the car the same and do not plan to do too much of remodeling which might interfere with their plans. Chances are that they are relying mostly on technology and aero enhancements which were announced and which are going to be added here. Some of these additions may also prove to be a speed-sensitive rear spoiler and also some dynamic front winglets. Also confirmed are also some narrow headlights and taillights which are similar to the one seeing in the i8 model.
Even with the lighter materials that the 2017 BMW 6 Series is going to gain, the interior is going to benefit from a longer wheelbase. The coupe and the convertible models are certainly going to benefit form the interior spacing enhancement which grants much more comfort of the car.
The interior of the car also benefits from some of the comfort additions and gadgets that come. The interior trim is going to add an Alcantar trim, some leather and aluminum but also wood accents which makes the car as luxurious as any BMW model. The interior also adds some entertainment additions like high-end audio from Harman Kardon, an infotainment screens and also a huge list of optional equipment which is yet to be announced but is certainly going to be a bit one. The car also has motorsport-inspired equipment which includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, bolstered seats and grippy pedals.
There are currently four different engine variants that are linked with the newest 2017 BMW 6 Series. The first one is the 3.0-liter, straight-six, petrol powerplant which makes 347-horsepower and is going to be matted under the hood of the 640i model. The 3.0-liter, straight-six, diesel powerplant makes 333-horsepower and is reserved for the 640d version. The 4.4-liter, V-8, petrol powerplant is under the hood of the 650i and is going to make 600 horsepower while the 4.4-liter, V-8, petrol powerplant i is also seen in the top of the range M version of the car. As always the rear wheel drive is a standard option for every model but the all-wheel drive is going to be given as optional. There are some indications about a plug-in hybrid variant but no claims and confirmation has been made yet.
Release date and price
The 2017 BME 6 Series is supposed to rival such a car as the Porsche Panamera and it will do so with the price rate as well. Expect the model to be offered at $76,100 while the release date for it is still being speculated but according to the level they have reached for now it will make it by the third quarter of 2017.
