A full redesign of the 2017 BMW X3 is expected to hit the market next year. The X3 has always been a popular vehicle for your everyday driving and like that has already earned a lot of acclaim in the automotive world. It actually combines great driving mechanics, fabulous fuel efficiency and luxury as which helps it earn all of the badges the car wears. The latest release was seen in 2015 when the car received some subtle style shifting and upgrades which helped us get a fresher looking BMW car. It also introduced us to a new 4-cylinder engine back them. Now it is already time for a refresh as the redesigned is already waiting for us.
The redesign is going is going to have upgraded power features and a new modular design which promises to improve interior spacing and adds more comfort inside the car. It will also come with the latest BMW technology and there are also mentions of getting a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid option as well.
So why do we actually need another upgrade while the 2015 one has still not cooled down? Well the things is that the 2017 version is going to give us so much more that the 2015 version did not. They are planning to cover all the possible grounds with this update and so even with the currently versatile lineup we can get a lot more with the new one simply by adding the M-Performance model called the X3M40i, which adds a 3.0-liter inline six engine that produces 340 horsepower.
This model is not to be confused with the BME X3 M, which is a whole separate batch of cookies and which will also be featured soon. But before we get into this in a different review lets see what the 2017 BMW X3 brings to the table.
2017 BMW X3 exterior design
What we can expect from the exterior of the 2017 BMW X3 is more of a fine tuning for the design than anything else. The front side retains its kidney grille design which every BMW car is proud to have, but this time it is going to be a bit larger. The headlights are going to be changed although they are planed with a similar sort of a design. The changes made there are going to be the new added lenses. The outside corners of the headlights are going to get the LED running lights. The fog lights are going to be carried over as well.
The side view of the car sees a design where there has been some modeling done with the lines of the car. The upper body line which was curving down the wheel arches it is going to simply run back to the fenders. It looks a little bit more defined and not as sharp as the current model is actually. The crease at the lower center part of the door is sharper and the body line at the bottom of the door now has a mirrored effect and pops out from the body in a 3D manner.
The back side of the car does not make any dramatic changes and for the most part stays the same as the one seen before. The body lines have been toned down a bit at the back with a small lip protruding from the bottom of the rear window. The model will have a dual exhaust system which is the final piece of the puzzle.
The inside of the car does not offer us much information for now. We have yet to get some solid info about how the 2017 BMW X3 is going to be designed on the inside but there are some apparent changes made. The instrument cluster is going to have an elevated position like the current one. There is a speaker placed on the A-pillar on the inside and with these few changes there are not many other known facts about the car. The currently available ones are seen from the spy photos only but they do not show anything beyond this.
We assumed that the infotainment screen will be larger one and the 60-40 folding rear seat will be used in order to increase the cargo at the back and some leather seating as well. As the X3 is being built on a the CLAR platform, this also means that the car is going to have the same interior spacing and cargo room as the models that use it as well. The legroom may increase in fact as there is room to add a bit more if they use this kind of platform.
There are several engine options with which the 2017 BMW X3 might appear. The car might get some engine updates but there are not mentions of which. For the most part it appears that the ones that were present in the previous update are going to be carried over here with maybe some slight changes and updates. We are possibly looking at a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 240 horsepower, and a 3.0-liter that puts out 300 horsepower. We also see the car getting a diesel turbocharged, four-cylinder that can put out about 180 horsepower. We assume that the engines form before get to be kept while the optional new ones might still be considered as well.
Price and release date
The base trim of the 2017 BMW X3 is going to be priced at $38,950, the next trim comes at $40,950,whiel the diesel variant might be priced between $42,450 and $46,800. The release date has still to be announced but we see it somewhere mid-2017.
