The Viper. There are few other cars in history that hardly need an introduction, and the Dodge Viper is one of them. The American sports car/later super car has been turning heads and breaking necks since the early 1990’s, and is still one of the most stunning cars on the road.
The Viper started life as a concept car and more of a pure muscle car, and eventually turned into more of a sports coupe; which is how the Viper’s life ended.
It is one of the more sad stories in the automotive world. The Dodge / SRT Viper was an American great and is one of the most striking machines put on the road by an American automotive manufacture ever.
Dodge and eventually SRT decided that this amazing sports car needed to go out with a proper bang. Now we are talking about the 2017 Dodge Viper ACR.
The ACR name plate has been around for a couple of years on the Viper, and designated the car as a super powerful, track-focused weapon.
SRT’s newer Viper ACR actually set track speed and lap time record at 13 racetracks around the world. That is more than any production car ever. Plus, the 2017 Dodge Viper ACR started around $118,000 which is far less than any car that comes close to its performance capabilities. Think about the Porsche 918 Spyder, which is now reselling for upwards of $2,000,000; The ACR is way, way cheaper and keeps up on any track. Even with a manual transmission as the ACR’s only way of shifting.
The 2017 Dodge Viper ACR will go down as one of the greatest American sports cars/super cars even though the Corvette Z06 played such a large part in its demise.

The Exterior-2017 Dodge Viper ACR:
I’m not sure how much I need to say about the outside of the 2017 Dodge Viper ACR and how awesome it looks.
The evolution is almost visible in the latest car. The long, long front end, slanted passenger cell, large air duct just behind the front wheel, it’s all there.
The front end gets a massive aerodynamic upgrade for the ACR version over the regular Viper. Air channels on the side of the bumper and a massive front spoiler are pretty much added onto the standard front end. Just like a proper racing car.
The standard Viper hood completes one of the meanest looking cars on the market, with a massive bulge running down the center and an intake up front to aid in cooling the massive 8.4 L V10 engine.
The side of the track focused Viper is as the standard car is. Insanely low to the ground with a long hood and side-outlet exhaust tips.
You can also see the iconic dual-hump roof as well.
From the back, you have to address the massive down-force inducing elephant in the room, the spoiler.
The rest of the rear end is as the normal Viper is, but with a larger diffusor. On top of the trunk lid you will find a giant spoiler that helps control the snake through the corners. A big asset to the cars capabilities on the track.
Overall, the exterior of the 2017 Dodge Viper ACR is insane, and makes its purpose known right from the get-go.
The Interior-2017 Dodge Viper ACR:
Compared to the standard car which is already pretty stripped down and focused, the 2017 Dodge Viper ACR gets a huge host of sueded surfaces and other track-looking goodies.
The inside is pretty minimal when it comes to interiors, but that is to keep you focused on the powerful and thrilling task at hand: Driving.
For infotainment, SRT uses the common system we see in a lot of Chrysler products. Very common controls are used as well, which is something FCA does a lot.
From the Dart to the Maserati Ghibli you can find identical parts. Good for pricing and servicing, bad for the overall look of the interior.
The 2017 Dodge Viper ACR is only available in a manual, as you can see the stick popping up in a very driver-friendly position.
A cool note: The tachometer lights up with a picture of the Viper logo when you hit the red line. Awesome.
The Performance-2017 Dodge Viper ACR:
The 2017 Dodge Viper ACR has an absolutely absurd 8.4 L V10 engine that is naturally aspired. The giant power house produces 645 horse power and 600 pound feet of torque sent directly to the rear wheels.
0-60 is done in 3.2 seconds and the ACR can do a top speed of above 200 miles per hour. But that is just where the immense performance starts for the super car.
The aerodynamic package on the 2017 Dodge Viper ACR produces one ton of downforce at 177 MPH. in other words, at 177 MPH the ACR has the extra weight of 2,000 pounds on top of it as air thrusting it into the road for better grip.
With improved negative camber and shock upgrades, the 2017 ACR can produce 1.5 G in the corners.
The eggheads at SRT also point to the fact that the new ACR isn’t a 1-3 lap car, or one that just performs under ideal conditions and for a short amount of time. The new ACR can perform great all day at the track and be driven home as any car.
Sum It Up:
The 2017 Dodge Viper ACR is the final good bye for the Viper. It is sad, since the car is so legendary, but proper.
2017 is the last year you can get the amazing sound of an 8.4 L V10 Viper, and production has ceased.
