The latest release of the 2017 Kia Sorento puts a large emphasis on comfort. Given the fact that the car uses a new platform which it now shares with the Kia Carnival model, it adds more interior spacing and comfort. The new model is a total of 3.75-inches longer and gives us more interior room and as a result more comfort and luxury as there are soft-touch surfaces and premium materials all over the cabin.
The original Sorento was first introduced in 2003 and was originally a body-on-frame car, which was actually a style back then for building trucks and was translated to SUVs as well. The year 2014 introduced the current third-generation model which came with updates that are kept even for the newer models. It also updated the front fascia with larger corners, a redesigned frame around the grill, rectangular fog lights, and a side profile that had more character thanks to the emphasized body lines.
The third-generation model was an immediate contender. It gave way to a completely new type of design which is still fresh and used. The 2017 is going to build up and update the model a bit but will still keep the initial parts of the car. The updates brought here are also going to keep the car afloat against featured models like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V models which are also one of the most demanding cars in the segment.
When the release date comes we are going to be in for a slew of new features that the model is going to bring but also there is going to be a slight price increase compared to the previous model which is owed due to the addition of added materials and equipment. You can read all about it in this review.
The interior part of the 2017 Kia Sorento is perhaps its greatest feature. The car has all sorts of updates brought on the inside. The premium feel that the car has on the inside now is brought with the addition of all new materials, textures and soft-touch surfaces. This means that the dashboard, door panels and the center console are also wrapped in the same kind of luxurious materials. The console also has an updated layout which has a much more ergonomic look. The cabin is much more driver orientated and the hard plastic details are gone and substituted with some better ones adding to a greater atmosphere of the 2017 Sorento model.
The interior of the car is also going to allow the second and third row of the vehicle gain more comfort. Both benches come with an increased spacing of 0.5 inches of legroom and the cargo bay is increased by 1.5 cubic-feet to a total of 74 cubic-feet. There are also additional options that are available to choose from. These include 14-way power driver and eight-way power passenger seats, heated rear seats, driver’s seat thigh extension, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. The premium additions also include Nappa leather trim seating and 12-speaker Infinity stereo system with an 11-channel amplifier turns.
Finally we are getting a model which is more balanced between its base and upper trim levels for the latest 2017 Kia Sorento design. The previous models did have a good setup but it was that the higher trims received much more acclaim than its base form. With the 2017 they have finally managed to balance things out and are going to provide us with a much better look for the base form of the car. First of all, the body is longer and lower positioned and has a lengthy wheelbase compared to before. The body lines are softened and the car does not look at all dated and also results in a much more mature and refined look for the model.
The new style is close of being called a revolution of the model’s exterior design but they are still referring to it as an evolution of the model. It keeps the basic hood design from before and although it has a similar grille it adds some less abrasive angles to it. The fog lights change to a trapezoidal shape while there are some rounded mods in the lower bumper area. The side profile gives away the size changes more profusely, the greenhouse is similar but the D-pillars are much thicker compared to before. The rear end also sees the addition of some less angular taillights while the back of the car also features some sharply-angled details. The lower rear bumper is sleeker and there is a shark-fin antenna which replaces the old one.
There are going to be three engine options available for the 2017 Kia Sorento, giving us some exciting new choices to chose from. The new engine that is brought to the lineup is the turbocharged, 2.0-liter, inline-four which produces 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The naturally aspirated, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine is going to be transferred from before and it still keeps the same kind of performance specs with 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. The largest version is the 3.3-liter V-6 engine that also aspires to make 290 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque and also comes with a tow rating of 5,000 pounds. You can combine all of the three mentioned engines with a six-speed automatic transmission which has Kia’s Sportmatic shifting.
