If you are not updated on the rumors about the Porsche 960, here is what you need to know. It is a mid-engine model which is positioned just between the 911 Turbo and the 918 hybrid. This car is a great new addition to the Porsche roster and comes equipped and updated with all sorts of new upgrades and parts. It is stylistically going to resemble a the Cayman model but will be proportionally much bigger than the car the likings it bears. The difference between the Cayman is also the price that this model has which is substantially bigger.

Why have Porsche decided to produce this car? Generally speaking they have not managed to put a lot of contention within the supercar market. Sure there are the 911 Turbo and GT models but these are both rear-engine mattered models which are considered to be inferior to the ones with the mid-engine position. The Porsche 918 was supposed to fix the problem, but never really got to managing all the given competition it had against it.

The 2017 Porsche 960 is quite an exceptional release and we see it as something that will truly manage to work in favor of the company and will fix the problems that the previous model had. That is why we give you an early review which shows you the latest info about the car.

There are many novelties done for the exterior of the 2017 Porsche 960. One of the most noticeable parts and something that is going to affect the performance of the car is the new aluminum-and-composite-intensive platform which is going to be utilized here. The platform is going to be based on the new modular sport architecture provided by Porsche which is meant to advance the performance and the ability of the car. The car is going to remain a 2-door cabriolet and it is going to fix some details in terms of aerodynamics as the car is going to heavily base its design on making the performance better and enhancing the speed. The model also gets a new hard-top roof design which actually makes the car hard to determine if it is a cabriolet car or a regular one.

Also, what is great about the new platform design is that it can work well with both the mid-engine and rear-engine designs. The base design is going to give us a mid-mounted engine of course but we still get some versatility with the option of adding a rear-mounted one. This has not been announced yet but still floats as a possibility. The car is going to be made out of magnesium, high-strength steel, aluminum, titanium and carbon-fiber which is going to lessen the curb weight making it less than 3,000 lbs in total.

The interior of the 2017 Porsche 960 is going to be remodeled in an elegant way. Expect to see a large number of added and expanded features and materials. The comfort levels are going to be a big factor se entirely new and comfortable upholstery is expected to be added which are going to combine with the overall elegant theme of the car. Also announced are some of the new advancements in technology which are going to appear inside the car.

The car is accommodating two passengers so some racer bucket seats may come into play here which are going to enhance the support for both the driver and the passenger. With this comes the new infotainment system which does not only allow you to have better control of the car but also make sure that you utilize the entertainment features as much as possible. One thing that we do know is that the car is adding an entire new audio system and the controls for the navigation are also updated.

Engine specs

There have already been several options which are tied to the 2017 Porsche 960 powertrain. The first one to come up is the V-6 engine which was supposed to go up to 600 hp, but the latest rumor is that the car is actually going to be powered by a new  8-cylinder engine, which has been seen is such models as Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari F12 Berlinetta.

The most reliable and possible current option is a  3.9 L, 8-cylinder engine which comes with 4 turbochargers,  4 adjustable camshafts, 2 intercoolers, a dual-stage exhaust system and comes with a multi-stage intake manifold. This is going to bring to an output of 650 horsepower at least and it will also combine with a  7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission system that has  a 4-wheel drive system.  Te specs also give us an acceleration rate to 0-60 mph of 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 200 mph.

There are some rumors that the car is going to come with a backup engine option, the 4.6 liters V-8 model which makes 570 horsepower and also comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission system. This is highly possible particularly as the same one is used for the Porsche 911 version.

Release date and price

Given the fact that the latest 2017 Porsche 960 is still under production, we cannot expect it earlier than mid-2017. In fact there are many things that still need to be decided upon and the production should extend well into 2017. The best thing that we can offer is a car which we can see by the end of 2017. As we said about the price, it is going to be one of the more pricier models released from Porsche, thus a price of around 200,000 dollars is not a surprising one.
