Toyota has given the new 2017 Celica an entire face-lift, making the car sportier than its predecessors and more pleasing to the eye. Conforming to the aesthetics of cars of recent times, this new Celica is sure to sport an aggressive front end. This is accentuated by aerodynamic lines going down the side.
This review pulls back the curtain on the new version of one of Toyota’s most loved automobiles. We take a look at the exterior, through the interior and what’s under the hood as well as price.
Under the hood of the 2017 Toyota Celica
At the heart of this heir to the Toyota 86 lies a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine boasting 4 cylinders. While not an outright monster, this engine will be capable of churning out a respectable amount of horsepower ranging between 235 and 258 horses.
This engine will also be able to belt out 254 pound-feet of torque ensuring ready access to the power of the engine.
Toyota will mate this capable engine with a 6 speed manual transmission gearbox. If you cannot drive stick though, worry not. The Japanese car maker also gives the option for a 6 speed automatic continuously variable transmission.
The engine, coupled with this powertrain, is capable of giving a lot of bang for your buck in the fuel usage department. The new Toyota Celica gives a mileage of 27 miles per gallon on in the city and stretches out to 30 miles per gallon when it hits the highway.
The car maker is also planning an improved engine in the Celica. The driver is sure to be thrilled by having this 3.6 liter V6 monster under his control. This is because it metes out power equivalent to that of 310 horses.
Toyota Celica 2017 Exterior Design
Now that we know what exactly makes this revival of the Toyota Celica tick, its only right that we make sure that the aesthetics are as appealing.
If there was a beauty contest for automobiles, the 2017 Toyota Celica would more than hold its own. This is probably because the manufacturer decided to base the exterior design on the Toyota 86 model.
The front of the car makes a statement from the get go. The redesigned bumper, wrapping around fog lights, gives its a sporty look. The hood has air intake ports that cool down the engine when its doing its thing.
The angular headlights taper off along the hood, giving the Celica a gritty facade. These headlights are of the HID reflector beam kind. The wider grill also accentuates this gritty character at the front.
At the rear end of the car, the eye is immediately drawn to the spoiler. This spoiler, made out of rocker panels, not only offers aesthetic value but also contributes to the downforce for stability on the road.
The rear lights are linear features that stretch out towards the middle of the car where the proud Toyota badge sits.
Just like the rest of the car, Toyota has taken it upon themselves to bring the interior of the 2017 Celica into modern times. The cabin of the car has been decked out with all the niceties that, in this day and age, are just as important as the power unit.
On the first glimpse inside, one is stunned by the chrome inserts that set off nicely against the dark background of the rest of the interior. For instance, the singular chrome spoke accentuates the style of the black leather bound steering wheel.
The central hub is all modern gizmos that would make the driver giggle with glee. There is an infotainment system that has a large touchscreen display. This hub is connected to an audio system that comprises 6 speakers distributed throughout the interior for maximum sound output.
For personalized sound, the 2017 Toyota Celica comes with Bluetooth connectivity as well as USB input.
On either side of the cabin is an air conditioning grill that lets in warm or cool air, depending on the environment. These air conditioning grills directly face the adjustable seats, made out of a high end material.
Taken altogether alongside the ample head and legroom, the interior of the new Celica provides a high level of comfort to the driver as well as the passengers.
