With the 2017 Volkswagen Touareg release, this second generation SUV vehicle is getting a mid-cycle refresh after a full year of testing and preparations. The news was made public at the Beijing Auto Show this year when the car was officially showcased and made visible for the public to see for the first time and not just by merely looking at it on a picture.

The facelift gives a completely updated front and rear fascia parts with the front part looking very aggressive compared to before particularly thanks to the bi-xenon headlamps  which have been added and which are going to be available as standard across the board for all trims of the Touareg models. The exterior is going to feature other smaller aesthetic update by releasing some new color choices available and also new wheel-options as well.

The case with the inside is that various sorts of updates make it much more comfortable for use. The button/control configuration makes life for the driver of this car much easier and the leather and wood trim options make it much comfortable to spend your time inside of it.

The updates with eth powertrain was the biggest story for the 2017 Volkswagen Touareg as the model was supposed to receive a large power enhancement, but fans were disappointed to see at the early showcasing of this car that we are going to be in for the same kind of engine choice seen as before.

We present to you an indebt review about this model which is arriving to us this year and will be competing against such models as the Porsche Cayenne and the Audi Q7 in its respective segment.

Exterior changes

With the subtle updates that the 2017 Volkswagen Touareg gets, the car gets more presence on the roads and will be a bit more noticeable. But the changes are not extreme and it is noticeable that there is not that much going on the outside of the car. First of all the font fascia has been even some larger headlamps with  bi-xenon lights which are going to be a standard option for all the models across the lineup as they were optional for the last year’s model. The slightly redesigned grille now has four chrome trims instead of two for the previous look.

There is a completely new bumper piece added here but this one grants us a very nice sporty look for the Touareg and breaths in more confidence. This also gives the Volkswagen Touareg a more dominant presence and a better stance on the roads as well. Below the bumper there is a new spoiler added which is going to improve the aerodynamics of the car.

The rear end of the car includes a newly revised number as well which comes with LED fog lights and a new diffuser with some newly styled exhaust pipes at each end. If you want more chrome you can do so by opting for the Chrome & Style package that provides it for both the front and back of the car and with the arrival of this updated version we get new wheel designs in 18-inch and 20-inch sizes,  and 5 added exterior colors as well.

Interior redesign

People who have used the previous model will have no problems adapting to the 2017 Volkswagen Touareg. The design is pretty much the same with the changes coming from a few switches being switched here and there. There is going to be a new rotary knob that controls the Climatronic, air suspension, running gear, navigation and mirror adjustments. The push button/display bar placed on the center console is also new and is surrounded by some added chrome details placed on the control panels.

The upholstery has been changed as well and the car is going to feature  the signature Vienna leather combined with new Bonanza Brown color, while the Nappa leather is offered s optional in a  light sand  color also known as St. Tropez. And a final update is the addition of Sapelli Mahagoni or Engineered Ebony wood accents placed on the door panels, center console and the dash as well.

Engine performance

The US market version of the 2017 Volkswagen Touareg car is going to feature the same type of engines that were given for the previous model. This may come as a disappointment as there were some changes and power updates expected to happen but unfortunately we will get a bit more of the same with the new update for the 2017 Touareg. The first offer is still the 3.6-liter V-6 FSI, which will make  280 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. There is still going to be the hybrid power train option with the combined gasoline and electric engines to make an output of 380 horsepower and a fairly impressive 428 pound-feet of torque. The most powerful option is the turbodiesel 3.0-liter V-6 which can deliver 240 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque and also comes with a great fuel economy setup with the EPA rating of 20 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. All of the given engines will be paired with a eight-speed automatic transmission and stop-start are standard on all models.
