Latest announcements are bringing us ever so closely to the 2017 Volvo S60 release that is scheduled to appear next year. The original S60 made its debut some 16 years ago when it was first introduced as a substitute to the S70 model which was later discontinued. The car is finally getting an updated for its second generation model at which we are still currently in.
The second generation of the Volvo S60 was introduced for the first time in 2010 when it was remodeled after the Volvo ECC Concept and the current Volvo S80 vehicles. The current S60 still retains some of those styling cues and since it has already been quite some time, it was due time for a change and a style shift. This is where the new 2017 model comes as it promises to update most of the things that have not aged well on the current S60.
They are actually releasing it a special edition vehicle which is going to update the current model. So we are still not in for the next-gen Volvo but an edition which is going to bring us closer to the change which might happen sometime in the future pretty soon.
How the management from Volvo is marketing this new model is by stating that this is a driver’s car and like that it deserves a winning concept, thus the changes that are going to be made here involve a combination of fresh new features and new styling cues to the model which will eventually lead us down the path of getting a next-gen vehicle.
Fans are currently in two minds about this as they have been expecting an all together new vehicle instead of a further update, even if it is a special edition one. But in fact there are many things that you can love about this car. The best thing is that makes the optional equipment available as standard and even not for a bigger price change. It offers some changes on the inside as well and new color patterns as well which is going to ultimately make it a desirable vehicle.
Volvo is currently doing the same with much of its vehicles from their lineup so it does not seem that peculiar that they are doing this kind of a treatment for this model. Expect to see this out of many other Volvo vehicles this time, and now check out the news about the 2017 Volvo S60 right here in this review.
2017 Volvo S60 design update
What is great about this new model is that it is getting all sorts of refurbishments that you would actually not get out of regular vehicle. It looks great having all these special edition insert and additions to this model as it really makes it look better. Starting with the available colors, now the ones that were only seen on the S90, V90 and XC90 vehicles are going to be available here as a standard color choice. So you get the vehicle with Mussel Blue and Luminous Sand but also with an updated and changed bumper which adds blacks inserts and helps distinguish the new gloss and parts of the car based on the new colors. The radiator grille has been revised as well and now adds chrome inserts on the horizontal bar parts. The retractable side mirrors are going to be a standards feature for the S60 model while everything else is the same form the side view. The back side the car has something more going on there with exhaust outlets integrated into the rear fascia insert. Finally, you have a choice between using the 17-inch Rodinia tires or the 18-inch Tucan ones, enjoy.
The interior of the 2017 Volvo S60 has been also refurbished in a very elegant and luxurious way. Adds off-black or soft beige leather on the seats that are now much more comfortable in the base level cars from before. The interior trim comes with Milled Aluminum trim as a standard option while you can get the Piano Black as optional. You can actually make a combination that you like and choose the perfect one which suits your eye and your own standards. Besides these features, the steering wheel comes with the added built-in heating, as standard of course, and contrasting stitching and grove. The same thing has been done for the gear shifter boot on the center console.
It appears that the 2017 Volvo S60 is going to transfer the powertrain from before and still use the same ones that were already present there. This makes the T5 trim available with 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque and it comes with a FWD and a AWD as well. The T5 AWD or T5 Inscription AWD will give you 250 horsepower and 266 pound-feet on tap while the T6 Drive-E FWD and T6 Drive-E AWD R-Design comes with 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The S60 Polestar makes 345 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.
Price and release date
Some of the early estimations placed the 2017 Volvo S60 price tag at around $37,000. This puts it a little bit above the previous model price tag. But the base version is going to be priced at $34,150 as its starting base price MSRP, while the highest and top of the range model, the Polestar. trim, is going to be valued at $59,700. The releases date for the car is set for next year but there is no indications on when it will actually be, but it is safe to assume that the first quarter of the year is when the car will surely come out.
