Cadillac is a brand that is going through a lot recently. Since 2006, the brand has been trying to better align itself with younger buyers.
We’ve seen a lot of companies have their hat at this sort of change, and it is very difficult, and expensive to crack.
Cadillac has a strong reputation for being your grandfather’s car, and switching to the younger market as Cadillac is trying to do is a steep slope. However, we’re seeing some great progress lately.
Since the present generation CTS, ATS, Escalade, XTS and V-series cars have been introduced, we’ve seen a sharp drop in the average owner age of Cadillac’s, which is exactly what the brand wants.
This opens to the doors to new possibilities for the brand. Now we enter the 2018 Cadillac Ciel.
Cadillac introduced the Ciel concept car back in 2011 at the Pebble Beach car show. A true stunner.
The rear suicide doors and roadster appeal of the Cadillac Ciel took people’s breath away. The issue is, that the Cadillac Ciel is a concept car from an old era of Cadillac. Nothing more.
The Ciel would have been the jump into the uber-luxury world for Cadillac, and featured a lot of classic elements that made the company great in the past. Such as its absolutely massive size, suicide doors, roadster silhouette and overall body shape.
The 2018 Cadillac Ciel is absolutely beautiful, but could it be a real thing in the future?

The Exterior-2018 Cadillac Ciel:
Cadillac’s design team has evolved a lot to say the least. The cars they produced went from pig-looking to beautiful.
Even since the Ciel was teased in 2011, Cadillac has evolved to be even better with the most recent concept called the Cadillac Escala. The Escala actually debuted at the same car show that the Cadillac Ciel debuted.
As for the Ciel itself, Cadillac did a tremendous job with it. From a broad perspective, the 2018 Cadillac Ciel is a contender for the Rolls Royce Dawn. It’s that cool, and it’s seven years old.
The front end features the massive Cadillac grille. This specific grille design is outdated, as Cadillac redesigned their grille in 2015 to get rid of the cheesyness and wheat leaves.
Perfectly vertical head lights stretch from the bottom of the front bumper and flow over the front fender, like a proper Cadillac. The headlights are full LED fixtures as well.
The bull nose of a front end looks fantastic still. Again, the Cadillac Ciel is a seven year old concept car. It is pure business up front and its mission is absolute luxury.
My Favorite Parts:
The side view is probably my favorite. The way the bottom of the car lifts up in a sloping fashion looks so classic and so classy.
Cadillac’s Ciel door handles are completely hidden to help the side of the car look as smooth as possible, and it works. The suicide doors for the rear passengers are a perfect touch as well.
The window line on the 2018 Cadillac Ciel concept is very low, which means the overall ride height and center of gravity is as low as possible.
With the roof off, the 2018 Cadillac Ciel is absolutely beautiful. That is exactly how it should be.
From the back, the whole design comes into a perfect wrap with a small overall bumper and classic Cadillac tail lights.
The Interior-2018 Cadillac Ciel:
The inside of the 2018 Cadillac Ciel is an absolute tech frenzy, as you’d expect from a Cadillac concept car. The use of modern wood is very cool. However, the old Cadillac badge looks…old, and the shiny leather is just not cool anymore.
While current Cadillac’s aren’t really the epitome of interior design, the concept cars the brand makes are astonishing. Which is sad.
The cabin is a very well lit place, and it looks perfectly equipped for an open-top cruise down the road.
The dashboard is completely digital, except for a lone tachometer in the middle of the instrument cluster. This is very far ahead of its time back in 2011.
I love the interior of the 2018 Cadillac Ciel. The more I stare at this car the more sad I get since the thing isn’t real. Can you imagine the brand excitement Cadillac would get from this car? Any Cadillac concept for that matter…
The Performance-2018 Cadillac Ciel:
This is where nearly nothing is known about the 2018 Cadillac Ciel. But given the nature of this massive vehicle, we can make some inferences about what this beast of a car would be capable of.
Since this 2018 Cadillac Ciel would most definitely be Cadillac’s flagship vehicle, we can make some lofty predictions. Sticking with what GM has made, a V8 as a base engine seems reasonable. Since planting the 3.6 L V6 as a base engine would make the Ciel a CT6, and therefore irrelevant.
a 6.2 L V8 engine with 400+ HP to start, and (in my dreams) a V12 for the top end spec Cadillac Ciel. That is a proper combination. Tune both engines to be as smooth as possible for the best ride, and let the cars price be whatever it is.
Sum It Up:
The 2018 Cadillac Ciel makes me sad. Reason being that it will never come to life at all. It was a concept back in 2011 and will most likely remain that way.
I do believe though that Cadillac needs a Ciel to get people really, really excited about the brand. A new version of the classic uber-Cadillac.
