Volvo has an interesting place in the automotive world. People associate Volvo instantaneously with nerds. That’s not to say they’re bad cars, because Volvo’s are famous for being as safe as they come. The only issue is Volvo’s curb appeal.
If Volvo is known as the nerd of the car world, then the Volvo XC60 is the nerds pocket protector. Again, calling Volvo a nerd here, is a good thing. Just like what Bill Gates taught us.
Nerdy automotive engineering creates the absolute best cars on earth. The Volvo XC60 is practical, safe, smart and made with the utmost quality. While obviously the German’s like Mercedes and BMW make top-notch cars as well, Volvo has always had that certain sensible quality.
While the whole Polestar thing confuses me, the brand doesn’t at all. Volvo does what they do the best out of anyone out there.
Now on to the new and improved Volvo. Volvo carries the same ideology that has made them great into their new models, but the execution of the classic Volvo has changed dramatically, folks.
In the recent years, Volvo’s cars have changed from an open, friendly face to a more poised, focused and articulate attitude.
With the big changes on the styling front, the 2018 Volvo XC60 is the latest Volvo to adopt the new look. Many cues are from the big Volvo S90 that recently came out.
Classic Volvo practicality and quality meets top-notch design. The 2018 Volvo XC60 makes the most of both to earn buyers respect.

The Exterior-2018 Volvo XC60:
I did some calculations, and I came to a scientific conclusion.
The 2018 Volvo XC60 looks 1.2345 million times better than the previous car.
The front end of the 2018 Volvo XC60 is pretty much a copy and paste effort from the new Volvo S90. But it’s a bit more than that. The front end just works.
Volov’s new T-shape styled headlights dawn the front of the new 2018 Volvo XC60. The new lights are complimented by new splitters and lovely mesh grille.
The fenders on the new 2018 Volvo XC60 are not finished in that traditional black plastic that we see on many vehicles in it’s class. On the 2018 Volvo XC60 has body colored fenders. Even so, the 2018 Volvo XC60 still retains much of its capable look.
From the side, the 2018 Volvo XC60 retains a long front end, which helps make an attractive silhouette. The side body panels are excellently crafted with some attractive slashes and lines throughout.
The windows have also been pinched in a bit, which adds to a more athletic overall appearance.
Depending on what trim level you chose, the rear of the 2018 Volvo XC60 sports either a square dual exhaust set up or quad exhaust tips. Which ever way you go, the 2018 Volvo XC60 wears them fantastically. The quad outlets kind of have the older AMG style to them…
The new tail light design on the 2018 Volvo XC60 is a bit complex to say the least. It is a new revolution of the vertical tail light design we’ve seen from Volvo for years. Now, the new design now slashes into the trunk lid to continue the slashing design of the whole car.
Overall, the outside of the 2018 Volvo XC60 looks great. I really appreciate the Volvo styling nowadays, and I think it will help the Swedish take some business from Germany.
The Interior-2018 Volvo XC60:
In Volvo’s previous life (before 2016) the interiors of their cars were pretty confusing to look at upon first glance.
The center of the dashboard on previous Volvo’s was populated by buttons and an outline of a person sitting down to control air conditioning. Overall, it was just confusing. On top of that, the infotainment screen was pretty small.
But, Volvo decided to go back to the drawing board for their new cars. We saw something of what Volvo’s new designers could accomplish in the S90 sedan, but there is a new variation of the same design language in the 2018 Volvo XC60.
Volvo’s new interior’s are absolutely stunning. Cascading wood and modern materials are all over the place inside the 2018 Volvo XC60. On top of that, the center dash is taken up mainly by a big display screen and it looks great.
In doing so, Volvo got rid of the many buttons and knobs we’ve seen before. That means the whole interior looks a lot less cluttered.
Along with the digital dash, the 2018 Volvo XC60 adopts a mainly digital instrument cluster.
The Performance-2018 Volvo XC60:
As we took a look into the performance in the specs above, Volvo offers an assortment of engine options for the 2018 Volvo XC60.
In the usual situation, car manufactures will offer customers a naturally aspirated engine option and a turbocharged option. Volvo offers a 2.0 L four cylinder engine and an engine with compound forced induction for the 2018 Volvo XC60.
The simplest way of putting it, is compound forced induction uses a system consisting of a supercharger and a turbocharger. That way, the supercharger produces power on the low-RPM range, and a turbocharger produces power on the high RPM range.
While compound forced induction is a complicated system, Volvo’s are notoriously reliable and safe. So that means Volvo’s handle the complexity very well.
Sum It Up:
The 2018 Volvo XC60 is the newest addition to Volvo’s slow but sure remodeling. Soon, we’ll see plenty of new Volvo’s dawning the new design cues.
Look for a release date for the 2018 Volvo XC60 later on this year, along with more nerdy Volvo’s.
