Since 2012, Volkswagen has been teasing us with the idea of a mid-size seven seater SUV made available for the US market. What we got till then was a concept vehicle and no actual production model yet. At the former Detroit Motor Show we were excited that the car will finally arrive, but all we got was yet another Concept GTE coupe vehicle.
The German automaker is truly trying people’s patience. But if they managed to achieve what they are planning in full, then we shall give them a chance and wait some more for the actual production car. What they are trying to achieve with this car is to establish both performance and fuel economy, which sounds pretty awesome and we will be more than happy to wait some longer for their planned product.
With the Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE concept vehicle we are another step closer to the production model. The release date is of course a long way ahead of us, but the release of the concept at the Detroit show was a hit. The car showed itself in great light and prepared us for the things to come which we are hoping is going to be sooner than we think.
Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE Concept Exterior
The third installment of concept cars for the Volkswagen’s upcoming GTE car comes with a similar look which its predecessors had. The exterior is pretty stylish with some additional changes which certainly make it more interesting than the previous concept vehicles. What is immediately noticeable with the GTE concept is that it is characterized with sharp body lines and also has a sloping roof to complete the exterior look.
The measures of the new Cross Coupe Volkswagen vehicle come down to it being 190.8 inches long, 68.3 inches high and 79.9 inches wide. The sharp and precise lines which characterize the vehicle go well with the new design of the headlights and the merge with the new radiator grille which is made out of two aluminum lines. The car has been presented in a Grand Pacific Glacier blue color theme, which really makes the car stand out.
What is certain and significant for the forthcoming production model is that it is going to take many things form the Cross Coupe GTR concept car. This has also lead us to believe that this is going to be maybe the closest how the final product is going to look.
Inside we have been introduced with a new design which gives us an introduction to a much finer technological upgraded car. The inside has been fitted with upgrades like 10.1-inch touchscreen which is matted at the center of the console dashboard, as well as gesture control and proximity sensors. Also the included toys are a place to insert your tablet at the back seat and 2.3-inch instrument cluster.
The inside has been also matted with some fine leather and brushed-aluminum inserts. Actually the showcased Ink Blue Nappa fits perfectly with the color of the exterior of the car. The inside feel pretty pleasant and enables the passengers and the driver to have a good time while driving inside it.
This is perhaps what we will certainly like to see in the production model. The inside comfort levels are great and also fit greatly with the outside of the car. If anything, the interior of the car has been perfectly designed and this Cross Coupe Concept fits the bill perfectly for the ultimate design.
The concept has been confirmed to be using the plug-in hybrid technology by its name. What the SUV has been fitted with is the 3.6-liter, V-6 engine with the capability of reaching 276 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The car also includes two electric motors which give it an extra boost combined with the regular engine.
The back electric motor is good enough to generate 114 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque, while at the back it adds a power of 54 ponies and 162 pound-feet of torque. This enables the Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE concept to achieve a total output of 355 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, which gives the car a lift from zero to 60 mph in just 6 seconds.
Price and Release Date
The Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE concept has premiered at the Detroit Show in January and is the third installment of the Volkswagen’s concept for the upcoming GTE vehicle. Being announced, the actual release date is still a mystery and it is going to remain as such for some time now The best we can hope for is getting it in 2016.
As for the price is concerned we are also in a blank about the presumed price. Estimations are at some 20.000 dollars, but it is too soon to tell the actual price.
